Morzine is located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, and is a real hotspot for people looking to purchase a home in the French Alpine region. Surrounded by mountains, it’s a spectacularly picturesque area, with lots of activities to enjoy, all year round.
If you’re thinking of buying a property in Morzine, here’s some information about the best things to do here, both in the summer and the winter.
Things to do in Morzine in the winter
Go skiing
Morzine boasts some of the finest pistes in the French Alps, and has runs that are suitable for skiers of all abilities. The Le Pleney gondola runs from the town centre, and takes you to two piste sectors, which are on opposite mountain faces. The south-facing slopes are perfect for beginners, while the north-facing ones are more challenging. Snowboarders are also well catered for, and there’s a wealth of snowparks and alternative pistes close by.
Take a ride with a husky
If you’d prefer to soak up the snowy scenery without too much exertion, a husky-sledging trip is the ideal way to do it. Some of the husky trips cater for families, while others take on slightly trickier terrain. Whichever sledge trip you choose to take, it’s sure to be an experience that won’t be forgotten in a hurry.
Dive under the ice
This activity is perfect for adventurous types. Head to Lac Montriond, where an instructor will teach you how to make a hole in the ice, then dive into the chilly waters below. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re keen to explore the icy, subterranean depths, this is definitely the activity for you.
Indulge in some retail therapy
Morzine has a good array of shops in the town centre, selling everything from souvenirs to specialist clothing. There are also some great local cafes and restaurants – which is just what’s required after a morning of intensive shopping.

Go parapenting
Morzine is celebrated for its parapenting, and it’s a common sight to see hundreds of brightly coloured parachutes in the air during the summer. Certainly, it’s a spectacular way to take in the landscape, and is regarded as a ‘must-do’ activity in the region.
Spend the day at Lac Montriond
Lac Montriond is beautiful all year round, thanks to its dramatic, mountainous setting. The lake has a splash pool for younger swimmers, and there’s also the option to hire out a kayak or pedalo. Alternatively, you can spend the day paddling, picnicking and simply soaking up the scenery – one thing’s for sure, you won’t get bored here.
Explore the hiking trails
There are numerous walking trails in the region, with some routes being easy-going, and others being more challenging. The river trail is particularly popular, as it passes a high-wire playground and a stable with horses; both of which are much enjoyed by children.
Zip-wire across a canyon
If you’re a thrill-seeker, you’ll love Fantasticable Zip Wire. This three-kilometre ride is in the Les Lindarets area, and sends riders across the canyon at speeds of up to 100km per hour. Be warned, this one is seriously high-octane, and as such, is only suitable for adults.
